My Book of Acts!: Originally played on another stage, February 2025. Now performed, I mean republished here as a new Act.
My name is Femi but you can call me Fems. I’m an alien, and I came to this galaxy to emcee; you’re not a DJ but scratch that. ‘Down to Earth’, I am a multimedia creator who enjoys writing. I sometimes refer to myself as ‘the expressionist’ — apparently a student of expressionism. In this post, you will read everything you need to know about me, or at least all that you should know.
I’ve always fancied music and writing — even long before understanding content writing or coming into the consciousness of composition for visual media. In other words, my adventures into the ‘land of words’ were not always defined. Like the eagle, I’ve soared high and low, over lands and rivers, I have wandered the wild, and now I have found a place to nestle.
I love me-times, that is the period I’m able to reflect, clear my mind, set my thoughts free, travel through time (and space), wondering why things are the way they are — and sketch some thoughts, write some and score some more. I’m drawn to higher knowledge, astrology and metaphysics.
Act One, Scene One: Before the Gathering of Clouds
After thinking about it for over a year, I started my first blog in about 2021; an honestly topsy-turvy ride. I had to quickly learn and relearn a lot of stuff like SEO, website security, article formatting, accessibility, usability, etc., which I found enjoyable actually — except maybe the web security part.
Security? if you have ever self-publish online, you’d understand this. I soon found out how ‘vagabonds’ roam the ‘streets’ with the intentions of burgling or to hijack websites for money, cred or both. Almost every time you go through your security plugin, you’d find all sorts of crazy people (IP addresses) loitering your neighbourhood hoping for gaps through your back door but unlike Sylk Sonic, I do not to leave the door open.
I came across and joined a few groups about blogging and content writing around the time. There, I learnt about the likes of Ricky Kesler and Jim Harmer (Income School), Adam Enfroy and a few more. I must admit that Ricky and Jim were the most instrumental in my learning and publishing journey.
Eventually, I ported to Medium because my blog unfortunately went under when it became compromised. In other words, even if you don’t leave your door open, burglars sometimes still manage to get in. Another reason for jumping to Medium was also because i was looking for a more stable and secure platform.
Scene Two: A Hop On Medium & the Following Descent
After joining Medium, the original About Me version of this piece was one of my first i wrote. It happened that I had been following Zulie Rane zulie@Medium from YouTube and perharps my major influence for joining Medium. Immediately I started though, I could feel I wouldn’t stay long there because everything was different. SEO was largely no use. It’s meaningless if your piece rank No 1 on Google SERP for targetted keywords, but you can get paid only if a fellow Medium Partner reads or clap for your piece.
My themes was largely Philosphical. Some of the half-written topics you’d still find in my drafts include: “Love is Dead”, “Sorry, But Jesus is Not Coming Back”, “Why Men Love Their Mothers and Daughters Their Fathers”, “When Slapped, Turn the Other Cheek”, “If You Had 24 Hrs to Live” and few more.
The thing was, even writers who write about ‘ice-cream and lolly-pops’ had to beg to get into publications, you had to hope and pray somebody read your piece, like it, clap for it and boost you — it felt awkward. I was there for a full year, unable to break-even my full-year subscription.
I ported to Medium because my blog unfortunately went under when it became compromised.
Around the time, a lot writers on Medium were beginning to complain about the ‘not-so-pleasant’ transitions the platform was making. Several ‘A-list’ writers, some of whom I framed as mentors were jumping ships to Substack and creating personal sites.
Looking at the direction I would like to go and the type control I would love to have in relation to the understanding i’ve gained, it became apparent that I needed to go back to self-publishing. Beat making and music production was becoming the core focus.
Before settling for my names, thebeatbureau.com (hoping to sell beats and sample packs) and the beatjedi.com (inspired by love for Star Wars) were some of the names I registered and tried, until my perspective morphed again when I came into contact with the likes of Steven Beddall who is a mentor now, essentially.
Act Two, Scene One: Before The Blogs
Okay, I’d like to backtrack a little bit. Around 2004/2005 or so, I accompanied a friend Alli to his recording session for the first time and ended up doing the hook. It wasn’t part of the deal, and I wasn’t prepared for it; that event sort of made me realise how practicable the thought I’d always nurtured was.
I was fascinated by the production process and took note of everything that happened. I memorised the software they had (Fruity Loops and Cubase) and got them from Computer Village. Luckily, my brother had an old PC on which I managed to run the software and played around — YouTube wasn’t common and internet was still expensive for video tutorials; there weren’t much of video tutorials anyways.
It was on that same PC, I first learnt HTML, CSS and JavaScript. It was exciting when I discovered Macromedia tools — Dreamweaver, Flash and Fireworks. I learnt and mastered them over time. Flash was my favourite. I had to dig my hands a bit into PHP, ColdFusion and MySQL at some point too; somehow, you had to be able to connect your front to your back-ends.
A few years later, I started positioning for web design gigs and had some luck — I even got an offer to teach at a local computer school. I came across Fiverr and Upwork later. I was able to make some earning on Fiverr for a while; I didn’t have much luck with Upwork. Also in that period, I continued to nurture my interest in music production.
With B.Sc. in Economics, the path normally would be: a finance job, become Chartered, get Masters etc. It wasn’t necessarily so for me. I went from Tech Support Assistant to stints in Financial Auditing and later into Customer Service. All the time, the creative force was pulling like the dark side did to Darth Vader.
I am hopelessly passionate about music and the creation process.
I enjoyed music production, web design, digital illustration, animation and writing. I soon discovered it doesn’t make sound judgement holding on to all of them at the same time — I think I learnt that from a Leke Alder’s seminar. I had to think about which one of them brought most sense of fulfilment. At that point, it didn’t matter what anyone else thought (of course people did talk) wondering why I was leaving stability for uncertainty.
Not being able to self-express felt like prison mentally and spiritually. I just wanted to be able to pour out my heart either through music — that for me is one of the greatest gift I believe one could possibly get aside the gift of life itself.
Act Three: My Book of Act’s Exit Play & The Afterpiece
Today and in the foreseeable future, I plan on continuing making music, write and supporting good causes. By default, my genre is a fusion of Hip-Hop/Orchestral/Jazz type of music, but now, I’m more focused for Sync. I also enjoy keeping tabs on the industry, its impact on independent artists, and as a constant source of ideas.

I am hopelessly passionate about music and the creation process. It’s either I’m producing, songwriting, doing music marketing, mixing, or designing content; music is my destiny, and in there, you’ld always find me.
Blog Publishing & Writing
I hope to extend my writing into other spaces and publications. Someday, I’d like to have my write for Forbes, New Yorker, Wired, Entrepreneur etc. I look forward to publishing my own books too. In recent times, I have strong interest in themes about higher knowledge, mindfulness, and spiritual consciousness and even though music is at the very core, you will sometimes find these views etched in my expressions.
Entrepreneurship
It’s never easy finding one’s footing, especially when you go outside the comfort zone and even though I did the 9-5 for over a decade, the feeling had always been to go beyond it, to explore and that, the daily grind refused to hand me. I love entrepreneurship and drawing inspiration from successful people.
Defending Good Causes
Apparently, only people who are disconnected from their environments would turn their back when there is a need to stand and defend a good cause. Martin Luther King Jr. says, “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere”. I have pledged to lend my hand, strength and voice to help defend good causes. My first step in that direction was signing up as volunteer for Amnesty International and I WILL continue in that path.
A Few More…
I enjoy epics, fantasy and romantic comedies. I have a few incomplete stories that I hope to tell someday. There are particular drafts on alien lives and unrecorded story of Jesus (things I’ve imagined), and a few more short stories. Meanwhile, it’s going to be one step after the other.
Imperfection is the nature of man; we live to improve every single day. If you remotely enjoy the process of making music, especially from the point where music and movies meet, then you’d definitely love it here.
